Boxing

Boxing is a form of combat sport involving two people. The people involved in boxing have to wear protective gloves and other protective equipment like hand wraps and mouthguards. In boxing, the two participants throw punches at each other for a predetermined time period. Boxing is usually performed in a boxing ring. Boxing has been a part of human history for a very long time. The earliest evidence of sporting contests involving fist-fighting dates back to the 2nd and 3rd millennia BC. Fist-fighting contests were usually played in the ancient Near East in the 2nd and 3rd millennia BC. Boxing was considered an Olympic game in 688 BC. The terms “pugilism” and “prizefighting” are synonymous with boxing where the word “pugilism” is a Latin word meaning “with a clenched fist” and the second word “prizefighting” relates to playing the sport for monetary gains which began in England in the 17th century.

There are four styles of boxing that relate to the boxing style and technique used by a boxer. These four styles are:

  • The swarmer
  • Out-boxer
  • Slugger
  • Boxer-puncher
